Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement provided at the time of booking confirmation or upon vehicle pickup. This agreement outlines the specific terms, conditions, insurance provisions, fees, and your responsibilities related to the rental. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Renting a vehicle requires:
- To rent a vehicle from Car Hire in Livingston, drivers must be a minimum of 21 years old, with age restrictions varying based on vehicle type. A valid driving licence, appropriate for the chosen vehicle category, is required, along with identification and proof of address. Additionally, valid payment details and a security deposit must be provided, along with any further requirements outlined in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payment Process
- Reservations can be made via our website, over the phone, or at our Livingston office. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. Full payment along with a security deposit is usually required at the time of vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT where applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, processed securely through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of vehicle collection, it is essential to conduct a thorough inspection and promptly report any pre-existing damage. A vehicle condition report will be created and signed at this stage. Please ensure the vehicle is returned in the same condition as it was collected, accounting for normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and may incur additional charges. The vehicle should be returned with the same fuel level as at collection; refueling fees will apply if it is returned with less fuel. Late returns may result in extra charges. If you anticipate returning the vehicle late, please contact us as soon as possible. You are liable for any parking fines, traffic violations, or other charges that occur during your rental period, in addition to an administration fee.
Insurance and Liability Policies
- All rentals come with basic third-party insurance included. Comprehensive coverage details and excess amounts are outlined in the Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be offered to help minimize your financial risk. It's advisable to review these options closely. You remain liable for any damage or loss up to the insurance excess amount, unless further insurance is purchased. Damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violation of these Terms remains your responsibility, regardless of insurance.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies depend on the type of booking and the notice given. For specific details, consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Please be aware that late cancellations or no-shows may incur additional charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited Uses of Rental Vehicle
- The vehicle must not be used for any illegal activities or purposes. Engaging in racing, off-roading, or similar hazardous behavior is prohibited. Transporting dangerous materials is not allowed. Sub-letting the vehicle or allowing unauthorized drivers is also forbidden. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly against policy. The vehicle is intended for specific uses, and exceeding weight or passenger limits is not permitted. Additionally, driving outside the agreed geographical boundaries requires prior approval.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental termination and extra fees.
8. Liability Limitations
To the fullest extent allowed by English and Welsh law, Car Hire Livingston will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims is limited to the rental amount paid in the last 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury due to negligence or fraud.
Governing Law in Livingston
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. All disputes will fall under the jurisdiction of the relevant English and Welsh courts.
